April 2022 Update

The Betty Memorial 2021 Senior Capstone Project is completed.  COVID caused a roughly 8 month delay in completing the competition, but it is now finished.  The judges, four Liberian and one American, deliberated over the scoring rubric and ultimately decided the winner.  Given these two great machine builds, it was difficult to select only one winner, but in competition, there can be only one winner.

Regardless of there being one winner, there are two great accomplishments, a Palm Kernel Cracker (black) and Palm Fruit Digester (red).  Both machines can be refined and used in the local markets to process Palm and, hence, make money.

Perhaps one of the seniors will find financing such that they can begin producing and selling these machines?  Perhaps one of the seniors will follow through on their business/marketing plan and use a machine to process palm fruit in local markets.  There are many options open to them.

For a refreshment on what the actual Capstone Project was, please read the assignment here!

Perhaps Mary Siah, who serves the Grand Cape Mount County Region for Liberia’s Department of Education summed up these accomplishments best when she extolled, “Our children made these machines!  It wasn’t the Americans or the Chinese, but our own children!”.  A true accomplishment for both teams.

The BMI 2022 Senior Capstone Project has been assigned.   Stay TUNED!
